Arc Broward Promotes Diverse Workforce and Inclusion at Annual Employer Seminar & Job Fair

SUNRISE, FL – (October 11, 2016) – Arc Broward, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the community by providing opportunities for people with disabilities and other life challenges to realize their full potential, is hosting its Fourth Annual Dispelling Myths and Making Disabilities Work For You Employer Seminar on Thursday, October 20.

This highly anticipated seminar will be held at The Grand Ballroom inside the Sunrise Civic Center from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! This free educational seminar invites area employers to learn about making their workplaces welcoming to individuals of all talents, including people with disabilities, whom are a critical part of our efforts to build an inclusive community, strong economy and a diverse workforce.

For human resources professionals, this event has met HR Certification Institute’s® (HCRI®) criteria for recertification pre-approval.

The Keynote Speaker is Margaret Spence, President/CEO of C. Douglas & Associates, Inc. and the Founder of The Employee to CEO Project. Margaret specializes in making organizations understand the potential to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. Inclusion means making every attempt to accept the contributions that American workers with disabilities make to your workforce.

She promotes: “Diversity, Empowerment, Inclusion, Opportunity, Mobility, and Success lies in the hands of leaders – your hands. There’s still room to be a pioneer; we need men and women to champion disability inclusion.” Her topic will be “Release My Voice – Dispelling the Myths and Championing Inclusion for Employees with Disabilities.”

There also will be two panel discussions featuring employers who have supported hiring employees with disabilities, including representatives from Publix, McDonald’s, TD Bank and the National Disability Institute.

Finally, several of Arc Broward’s Center for Financial Stability participants will be part of a “Reverse Job Fair,” which allows them to showcase their unique skills for employers who are hiring.

One of the job seekers is Brad Williamson, a recent graduate of Arc Broward’s Culinary Arts Certificate. “I am truly grateful for the experience I received from Arc Broward’s 15-week Culinary Arts program. The caring instructor and hands-on learning were exceptional. It is my goal to find work as a prep chef in a professional kitchen, as a busboy or work in a retail grocery environment,” Brad said.

“There continues to be a strong movement across the United States for employers to hire individuals with disabilities. It is proven that Americans prefer to support businesses that promote a diverse workforce. Arc Broward is providing the support and services to help make our job seekers’ dreams become reality,” said Dennis Haas, Arc Broward President/CEO.
