CHAMP Leads Team of Dedicated Staff

Tomas Leon is one lucky guy. He has a wonderful wife and is a proud father. He served our country in the U.S. Army. He has had a successful career thus far, having worked at United Parcel Service, DHL and Delivery Specialists Inc.

For the past three years, Tomas has served as the Director of ARC Broward IT Asset Recovery and is one of the most respected professionals in the industry.

In 2015, Tomas became a Certified Hardware Asset Management Professional (CHAMP) after completing the certification course that focuses on hardware licenses and agreement negotiations, maintenance contact management, life-cycle management, inventory and redeployment of disposal assets. More information about the certification is on The International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers, Inc. (IAITAM) Website (www.iaitam.org).

Overall, Tomas adds expertise in assessing value of IT equipment, data security and 12 years of logistics experience handling assets with care and attention to detail at both the national and international levels.

More important, he is an outstanding leader to his dedicated team of 12 staff members. One of those individuals is Arlene Sloan, Office Manager, who started just before Tomas was hired.

“Tomas is loved by our entire team. He is an advocate for people with disabilities, a tremendous boss and great friend,” she said. “I am proud to work with him and be a part of the ARC Broward family.”

“Having a ‘CHAMP’ on staff allows us to remain competitive in asset management and data destruction,” said Julie Price, ARC Broward Vice President of Program Services. “With proper asset management tools and techniques, we are able to offer our clients opportunities to reduce their IT budgets.”

ARC Broward IT Asset Recovery is one of three mission-based enterprises of ARC Broward, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the community by providing opportunities for people with disabilities and other life challenges to realize their full potential. In addition to earning funds for services provided by ARC Broward, the 25,000-square foot warehouse, located in Fort Lauderdale, is a training site and has provided job opportunities for people with disabilities. Tomas and his team provide guidance to ARC Broward’s Material Handler Course every day. It is a 12-week hands-on occupational skills training program that prepares participants for entry-level positions in a light industrial retail or warehouse setting.

A couple recent Material Handler Course students, Zach and Robert have been grateful to Tomas and the organization for hiring them to full-time positions. Zach is now refurbishing equipment and readying some of it for sale on ARC Broward IT Asset Recovery’s eBay.com or Amazon.com stores.

Robert can be found throughout the warehouse disassembling electronics, properly destroying equipment using the Ameri-Shred AMS-2000 Hard Drive Shredder and various other tasks.

“I want to thank Tomas and ARC Broward for giving me this opportunity,” Zach said. “I have learned a lot from him and others, who have encouraged me to follow my dreams.”

ARC Broward IT Asset Recovery services include hassle-free business solutions including: state-of-the-art data destruction, asset recovery and environmentally responsible equipment disposal services for used equipment including computers, servers, networking, telecommunications, monitors, printers, mobile devices and other IT-related equipment.
