APD Approved 4-hr In-Service: Facilitating and Supporting Community Inclusion

Focused Audience:  All in-service trainings are open to Waiver Support Coordinators, Companions, Personal Supports, Residential Habilitation, Supported Employment Coaches, Adult Day, and Behavior Assistants.

Course Description

You will learn the importance and methods of helping individuals with disabilities connect with their communities.

Class Objectives

1. Describe the importance and rationale for assisting individuals with disabilities in becoming more connected to their communities.
2. Describe the three perspectives on community connecting.
3. Describe the concept of a “Social Guide” and a “Community Builder” and apply these concepts to the role of the Direct Support Professional.
