This course includes 20 hours of introduction to applied behavior analysis which meets APD’s requirements for Behavior Assistants. Instruction is provided over 3 Saturdays through In-person and/or live Zoom Conference by Board Certified Behavior Analysts with clinical and training experience. It is ideal for individuals working as Behavior Assistants needing to fulfill APD’s training requirements, as well as direct support professionals, teachers, therapists, or parents and relatives seeking additional information and training.
The focus of this instruction will be identifying how behaviors emerge and which behaviors require responding; learn behavioral tools and strategies to prevent problem behaviors; implementing techniques that promote the acquisition of adaptive skills with both individuals and groups; understanding the behavior assistant’s role in ABA services as a paraprofessional; the importance of the most recent evidence‐based interventions and technologies; and the importance of pairing with reinforcers. A small class instructor to participant ratio will allow participants to receive individualized attention and ongoing feedback.
Upon completion* a certificate will be issued. The participant is responsible for ensuring they receive ongoing supervision of a qualified behavior analyst supervisor (as deemed by APD).
*Completion is considered attending (e.g., participation, prompt arrival) all 3 days of the course consecutively. Instructors take attendance and are not allowed to issue a certificate for any time not spent actively participating in the course.
