The American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed to train healthcare professionals including nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, CNAs, and other healthcare and public safety personnel to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.
Course Completion Requirements
Online session completion requirements for both initial course participants and certifying course participants are the same. However, the way each participant works through the online session may differ owing to the adaptive learning technology used by the Red Cross course.
Lesson Assessments
Each lesson begins with a pre-assessment and ends with a post-assessment.
Final Assessment
Once you complete all lessons, you must pass a 25-question exam in order to complete the online session.
In-Person Skills Session
In order to receive a BLS certificate, you must successfully complete the online session and attend an in-person skills session where you will perform the skills you learned in the online session.
