Culinary Arts Certificate and Material Handler Students Celebrate Graduation

SUNRISE, FL – (July 6, 2017) – On Wednesday, July 12, students in two of Arc Broward’s nationally accredited career preparation programs, Culinary Arts and Material Handler, will celebrate their graduation.

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in The Grand Ballroom at the Sunrise Civic Center located at 10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard Sunrise, FL 33351.

Culinary Arts students will be graduating from Arc Broward’s 16-week intensive post-secondary educational program combining hands-on culinary education with commercial kitchen experience. The program prepares men and women with disabilities and other life challenges for jobs in restaurant, hospitality and food service industries.

This past May, some of the graduates had the opportunity to create dishes alongside top South Florida chefs at Arc Broward’s Delish 2017.

Arc Broward’s Material Handler program is a 12-week course that provides individuals with disabilities with the basic knowledge needed for an entry-level position in warehouse, light manufacturing, wholesale and retail operations. Students inventory and test electronics and refurbish them for reuse at Arc Tech’s 25,000-square foot warehouse located in east Fort Lauderdale. Former graduates of the program have advanced into other related occupations, such as customer service or e-commerce sales.

Two of the graduates have already found employment starting on June 20 at JEG & Sons, Inc., one of the largest wholesale unlocked phone distributors in North America based in Miami.

“From the onset, working with the Arc Broward team was a very positive experience. We hope to continue the relationship. Even better is we now have them as part of the JEG team.  They have acclimated well in our fast paced environment,” said Michael Weinstock, JEG & Sons Vice President of Operations. Weinstock goes on to say, “They are part of the JEG team and all involved have benefited from this experience.”

“The capabilities of these graduates is impressive. As they embark upon their new career paths they will undoubtedly change the perspectives and change the lives of whoever they meet,” said Dennis Haas, President/CEO.

Celebrating its 60th Anniversary, Arc Broward, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing opportunities to children and adults with disabilities and other life challenges. The organization has provided these graduates with practical experience, education, social and financial literacy skills and other valuable experience to help them launch their careers.
