ARC Broward “Dispelling Myths” Educational Seminar and Job Fair

SUNRISE, FL – (October 12, 2015) – ARC Broward, a not-for-profit dedicated to transforming the community by providing opportunities for people with disabilities and other life challenges to realize their full potential, will be holding a free educational seminar and job fair to help celebrate National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month.

 “Dispelling Myths and Making Disabilities Work for You” is a free seminar for business owners, hiring managers, and Human Resource professionals to help educate local employers about untapped resources that can enhance their businesses and welcome individuals with disabilities into the workplace. The seminar will provide employers with useful information about the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities and will dispel common myths employers may have.  The seminar will be held at The Grand Ballroom inside the Sunrise Civic Center from 8:30am-1:30pm on October 22, 2015.

The impressive lineup of speakers includes Keynote Address by Joel Sonnenberg, who was burned beyond recognition at the age of two, and has since appeared in several documentaries and television programs; he proves every day that extraordinary is within everyone’s grasp. Other speakers include Cathy Stutin of Fisher & Phillips, Steve Light of Marsh McLennen Agency, Jené Kapela of Kapela Leadership Solutions and closing remarks by Michael Morris, Director of the National Disability Institute.

The job and resource fair will include some notable local businesses including Lowes, Margaritaville, Enterprise, Servpro and Comfort Suites. This will be an opportunities for job seekers and employers and learn about opportunities for employment within our community.

ARC Broward’s Center for Financial Stability assists individuals with disabilities in obtaining and maintaining employment, completing post-secondary education or occupational skills training and increases their knowledge of financial stability concepts and behaviors. Long-term engagement in these services ultimately allows participants to earn, keep and grow assets while remaining employed, out of poverty and achieving self-sufficiency.
