Established in 2003, Arc Educates is a social enterprise of Arc Broward. Arc Educates provides four distinct certification programs that provide career training and rapid credentialing for animal care, culinary arts, healthcare operations, and material handling. 

Arc Educates’ Entry-Level Culinary Arts Certificate Program, Animal Care Certificate Program, Healthcare Operations Certificate Program, Hospitality Operations, and Material Handler Certificate Program are licensed by the State of Florida Commission for Independent Education, license number 4392, and accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), ID#1502.

About the Program

Furry friends are a huge part of our society, and taking care of them often requires professional help. Our Animal Care Certificate Program gives participants the capabilities and skills to effectively care for, serve, groom, and treat cats and dogs.

Our goal is to instruct students interested in a career as animal groomers, shelter employees, or pet retail stores. We help them achieve these goals through small class sizes, hands-on training and professional staff to guide them through their training. Students receive comprehensive training that includes externship instruction at a local area animal shelter or rescue.

About the Program

If you’re passionate about food and cooking, and want to learn the necessary skills to excel in a kitchen, then this program is perfect for you!
Our program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the culinary arts, and includes classroom and practical experience in our state-of-the-art Arc Culinary facilities. Our skilled instructors will teach students the principles of food and nutrition, the proper use and maintenance of professional knives, hand tools, and commercial kitchen equipment, and the workflow of professional kitchens and restaurants. Students also learn about the history, culture, and international diversity of the culinary arts, and earn a certification in food handler safety.

The Entry-Level Culinary Arts Certificate Program has been recognized by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation as an approved program.

Culinary Arts Certificate Program Goals

The certificate program provides students the opportunity to:

  • Understand the principles of food identification and nutrition.
  • Learn and practice the professional skills used in food preparation and service.
  • Gain experience in the proper use and maintenance of professional knives, hand tools, and commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Become familiar with the layout and workflow of professional kitchens and restaurants.

About the Program

Do you love helping people? The Healthcare Operations Certificate Program prepares students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed in a variety of in-demand support roles across healthcare and assisted living facilities.

Through interactive classroom instruction and externship training in local hospitals and assisted living centers, students gain the skills to uphold patient rights, communicate professionally, and provide dignified care. The program also includes American Red Cross CPR/AED, First Aid, and HIPAA Certifications, giving graduates an extra edge in today’s healthcare environment.

Our goal is to prepare participants for meaningful employment in entry-level healthcare support positions such as food and nutritional services, materials distribution, environmental services, patient transportation, and clerical support. With small class sizes, individualized instruction, and career support services, students are set up for success from day one.

Certificate Program Goals

Students will learn to:

  • Understand basic medical rights and principles of patient care
  • Provide CPR/AED and First Aid care in emergencies
  • Support nutritional and dietary services for patients
  • Practice safe cleaning, sanitizing, and laundry procedures
  • Assist with patient transportation and mobility
  • Perform clerical and data entry tasks in healthcare settings
  • Deliver excellent customer service and uphold professional standards

About the Program

Do you enjoy creating positive guest experiences? The Hospitality Operations Certificate Program prepares individuals with disabilities with the foundational knowledge and hands-on training needed to thrive in a variety of in-demand hospitality roles across hotels, resorts, and event venues.

Through interactive classroom instruction and practical training in a real resort environment at the Chateau Mar Golf Resort, students build skills in areas such as guest services, housekeeping, maintenance, breakfast operations, and banquet and event support. The program also includes a 1-month paid internship, giving participants the opportunity to apply their learning in a real-world setting and gain valuable work experience.

Our goal is to prepare participants for meaningful employment in entry-level hospitality roles by offering small class sizes, individualized instruction, industry-recognized curriculum, and ongoing career support. Students follow one of two learning tracks—Certification Track or Skills Track—and receive tutoring and optional certification preparation labs to reinforce learning and boost confidence.

Certificate Program Goals

Students will learn to:

  • Deliver excellent customer service in hotel and resort settings
  • Perform guest room cleaning, sanitizing, and preparation procedures
  • Provide support for breakfast services, banquets, and special events
  • Practice safe, effective housekeeping and maintenance tasks
  • Communicate professionally with guests, supervisors, and team members
  • Demonstrate hospitality-industry professionalism and workplace etiquette
  • Earn microcredentials through the AHLEI START Program, including:
    • Breakfast Attendant
    • Guest Room Attendant
    • Guest Services Gold
    • Optional Certifications: Restaurant Server, Front Desk Representative, Maintenance
  • Prepare for Florida Ready to Work Soft Skills and Digital Literacy credentials

Every day, millions of products go from Point A to our doorstep. This makes Material Handling one of the most valuable skills to learn in our consumer-driven world! The mission of our Material Handling Certificate Program is to stimulate learning, growth, and transformation.

Our goal is to instruct students who are interested in a career in light manufacturing, retail, and warehouse operations. We help them achieve their potential through our small class sizes and individualized instruction from professional staff. Students will acquire the foundational knowledge and skills in a commercial warehouse or in a related retail or other field.

Material Handler Program Goals

The program provides students the opportunity to:

  • Learn and practice the professional skills used in light industrial/warehouse/distribution/ retail settings including processing, sorting, demanufacturing, etc.
  • Learn and practice technical skills use in light industrial/warehouse/distribution/retail settings including use of technology to inventory and test product.
  • Gain experience in the proper use and maintenance of hand tools and warehouse equipment such as inventory systems, pallet jacks, etc.

How to Apply

First, complete the Quick Apply entry form to answer some preliminary questions about yourself! Our office will be in touch upon receiving your initial application.

We’ll then send over a program application either manually or electronically and submit at least 15 business days prior to the session start date. Please Note: a completed application does not guarantee admission or enrollment in the desired session.

Admission Requirements

  • Completed Application
  • Minimum age of 18 years old; validated by current driver’s license, passport, or photo I.D.
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D., or certificate of completion from private, specialized school
  • Tour and Admissions interview with an admissions representative
  • Successful completion of Trial Period
  • Desire to work in the respective industry

The institution does not require a test for entrance, nor are there other additional requirements such as background checks, drug tests, or immunizations.

Application Criteria and Processing

Once all admission materials have been submitted and are complete, applicants will be required to complete a trial period that will be held in advance of a course start. The Admissions Committee will then meet to review the following factors:

  • Dedication and ability to complete all program requirements
  • Solid learning capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team
  • Integrity, positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
  • Commitment to pursuing a career in the respective industry

Once all steps are completed and all required documents are reviewed, the Admissions Committee will render its decision of acceptance, denial, or waitlist. Applicants will receive notification regarding the status of their admission decision. Arc Broward reserves the right to reject applicants if the items listed above are not successfully completed or submitted.

Occupational Experience Period (OEP)

The OEP is defined as a period prior to official admission that assists the admissions committee in determining the applicant’s presumed capability to complete the program, ability to withstand the rigors of the program and the propensity to learn the material. At the end of that period, the student will be given an official letter stating the decision of the admissions committee.

What You Might Hear From Us

Decisions from the Admissions Committee fall into three categories:

  1. Accept
    Students are notified verbally by the Post-Secondary Specialist with follow-up in writing by mail. To complete the enrollment process, the enrollment agreement must be completed, signed, and returned to the Post-Secondary Specialist.
  2. Deny
    Students are notified verbally by the Post-Secondary Specialist with follow-up in writing by mail. Students who have been denied admission to a program may contact the school for additional details. If appropriate, students may reapply to a future session.
  3. Waitlist
    Students are notified verbally by the Post-Secondary Specialist with follow-up in writing by mail. Students are waitlisted when a program session is full. If a space becomes available before the program session begins, waitlisted students will be notified and may choose to enroll. Since program inception there have been very few occasions when a waitlist was necessary. The majority of the time, we are able to accommodate all eligible applicants as they desire.
