This certificate program focuses on practical animal care skills and professional development where students can apply learning immediately to provide excellent care for dogs and cats—in shelters, in veterinary settings, and beyond.
Upon completion, they’ll be prepared to earn their American Red Cross Cat and Dog First Aid Certification, further enhancing their professional credentials and employability.

Completion Requirements
· 340 Hours (130 hours in Lecture / 210 hours in Lab/Externship)
- Describe the principles of basic animal care, specific to dogs and cats.
- Understand and demonstrate professional skills required of an animal care assistant/associate.
- Identify and understand common dog and cat breeds and their behavior.
- Express an interest in and appreciation for animals, including their care and welfare.
- Demonstrate effective communication.
- Demonstrate professional customer service
