Culinary Arts Certificate Curriculum
Arc Broward’s Culinary Arts curriculum helps adults with disabilities develop the knowledge and skills they need to meet the increasing demand for qualified culinary professionals in the food service and hospitality industry.
The curriculum prepares students for a broad range of career possibilities, including working in restaurants, catering companies, hotels, institutional food services, bakeries, or specialty food preparation environments.
This curriculum focuses on practical culinary skills and professional development where students can apply learning immediately in professional kitchen settings. Through a comprehensive curriculum of 120 hours of lecture and 300 hours of hands-on laboratory experience, students gain essential skills in food preparation, kitchen safety, and teamwork.
Upon completion, they’ll have developed the professional competencies and confidence necessary to succeed in various food service positions, opening doors to meaningful employment opportunities. During the program, they’ll be prepared to earn the industry recognized SafeStaff Food Handler certification.
Licensing Details
Each curriculum license will come with one 2-hour training session during the initial license year. This training provides an overview of the curriculum and implementation.
Completion Requirements
- 420 Hours (120 hours in Lecture / 300 hours in Lab
- Understand the principles of food identification and nutrition.
- Learn and practice the professional skills used in food preparation and service.
- Gain experience in the proper use and maintenance of professional knives, hand tools, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Become familiar with the layout and workflow of professional kitchens and restaurants.
- Gain appreciation for the history, culture, and international diversity of the culinary arts.
- Build skills as a member of a team.
- Learn to communicate accurately and effectively.
- Develop a personal sense of professionalism necessary for working successfully in the food service and hospitality industry.
