Material Handler Certificate Curriculum

Arc Broward’s Material Handling curriculum helps adults with disabilities develop the knowledge and skills they need to meet the increasing demand for qualified logistics professionals in warehouse, distribution, and retail environments.

It prepares students to explore a broad range of career possibilitiesr students, including positions in warehousing, inventory management, shipping and receiving, retail stock management, order fulfillment, and distribution centers.

This curriculum focuses on practical material handling skills and professional development where students can apply learning immediately in warehouse and retail settings. Through comprehensive training, students gain essential skills in inventory management, equipment operation, and workplace safety protocols.

Upon completion, they’ll be prepared to earn industry-recognized credentials including the 10-hour OSHA Outreach Training Certificate and NIOSH Staying Safe at Work Certification, with eligible students having the opportunity to obtain Forklift Certification. These qualifications enhance their professional credentials and significantly improve their employability in this growing sector.

Licensing Details

Each curriculum license will come with one 2-hour training session during the initial license year.  This training provides an overview of the curriculum and implementation.

Completion Requirements

  • 248 hours (78.5 hours in Lecture / 169.5 hours in Lab/Externship)
  1. Learn and practice the professional skills used in light industrial/warehouse/distribution/retail settings including receiving, shipping, put away, picking, etc.
  2. Learn and practice technical skills use in light industrial/warehouse/distribution/ retail settings including use of technology to inventory and test product.
  3. Gain experience in the proper use and maintenance of hand tools and warehouse equipment such as inventory systems, pallet jacks, etc.
  4. Become familiar with the layout and workflow of a warehouse/distribution center/retail space.
  5. Build skills as a member of a team.
  6. Learn to communicate accurately and effectively.
  7. Exercise safe working practices.
  8. Obtain 10-hour OSHA Outreach Training for General Industry Certificate of Completion.
  9. Obtain Staying Safe at Work Certification by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
  10. Obtain Forklift Certification. (optional for eligible students)
