Learning Outcomes

Community Support Skill Standard Competencies

1. Assists the participant to meet his or her and personal management needs by teaching skills, providing supports, and by building on individual strengths and capabilities.

2. Assists individuals in completing personal care (e.g., hygiene and grooming) activities.

3. Observes and implements appropriate actions to promote healthy living and to prevent illness and accidents.

4. Assists with identifying, securing and using needed adaptive equipment (i.e. adaptive equipment) and therapies (e.g., physical, occupational, speech, respiratory, psychological).

Class Objectives

1. Explain the direct support professional’s role in meeting the daily personal needs of the supported person.

2. Explain the purposes and processes of assisting a person with oral hygiene, bathing, dressing,

shaving and lifting and transferring people safely.
